Pre-Planning
We all plan for our future, education, career, vacations and our retirement. Many of us however hesitate in planning for our own funeral or the funeral of a loved one...
Pre-Planning for yourself or for a loved one could be the most thoughtful, caring and loving gift that you could give to your family. Planning ahead allows you to make difficult decisions in a stress free atmosphere, whether it's in the comfort of your home or at the funeral home. Pre-Planning also helps ensure that your final wishes will be carried out by your family and most of all it will reduce the burden on your family during a very emotional and difficult time. It will leave your family with peace of mind knowing that they are fulfilling your personal choices. Sadly, we also see the many problems that confront those families who don't have a pre-plan to follow.
Can I pay for my funeral ahead of time?
Most people that pre-plan are also interested in pre-funding their services to help ensure that their family is not left with a financial burden. Although not required, pre-paying for funeral home goods and services in their entirety gives you the abilty to lock in future funeral costs at today's prices for tomorrow's needs. If pre-paying in its entirety is not an option, partial payment of funeral goods and services is available. Setting up an irrevocable or revocable funeral trust with the financial institution of your choice is the avenue we use to pre-fund for funeral services. The State of Wisconsin requires pre-funded contracts to be irrevocable to have the funds be exempt from consideration as assets when determining eligibility for Medicaid/Title 19 assistance programs.
