Dale Weir

Dale Keith Weir “Bear Paw”, age 69 of Westfield, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. He was born July 28, 1939 in Adams County, the son of William and Elsie (Travor) Weir. Dale was married to Sandra Jean Snow on March 11, 1961 in Springfield Township.

Dale worked road construction for the local 139 Operating Engineers (Sweeney Brothers) for 18 years and pursued his passion for farming for almost 34 years. Dale was still working hard the day that he passed.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandy, 4 children; Angel (Dan) of Westfield, Margaret Suter of Westfield, Josh (Judy) of Cottage Grove, Heather (Shawn) of Westfield; stepson Jim (Lisa) Thompson of Westfield, grandchildren; Jordan, Richard, Michael, Sarah, Leigh, Stacy, Jenny, B. J., Dylan, Adrian, Justin, Jessica and 12 great grandchildren. Brothers; Jack (Mary Sue), Roger (Vivian), sisters; Charlotte (Duane) Reichoff, Sandra Dornacker and Hope (Curtis) Lainge, close friends; Wilbur, Gordy, Bob, Howard and many other friends and relatives. Dale was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie, father, William, stepson Basil and several aunts and uncles.

Dale’s wishes were to be cremated. Arrangements are being handled by Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home of Westfield. A memorial gathering will be held in Dale’s honor on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 11am-3pm at the Harrisville Lions building. Lunch will be served and stories will be told about this local farmer.
