Della Mitchell

Della A. Mitchell, age 95 of Oxford, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2007 at her daughter's home in Cambridge. She was born on March 29, 1912 in the Township of Otsego near Rio, WI, daughter of the late Herman and Sena (Hendrickson) Hendrickson. Della graduated from Rio High School and then attended M.A.T.C. and UW Madison. Della married Bernard Mitchell in November of 1933 in Waukegan, IL, he preceded her in death in January of 1965. She helped in her husband's family business, Mitchell's IGA of Oxford for many years and then worked for Marquette-Adams Telephone Co-op for over 20 years. In her earlier years, Della volunteered for the American Red Cross. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Idun Lodge of Madison, St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Oxford and the Ladies Aid. Della enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, quilting, needle work, playing cards and ceramics.
Survivors include one daughter, Sonja Nikolay, Cambridge; two grandchildren, Dan (Gina) Nikolay, Fort Atkinson and Bernie (Karen) Nikolay, Cambridge; two grandsons in law, Robert Meracle and Gary Rattmann; 13 great grandchildren, Erica (Chad) Hubred, Anthony (Katie) Lowrey, Aimee (Dale) Schroeder, Ashley (Chad) Lowrey, Ryan (Katie) Nikolay, Courtney, Anna, Jay and John Nikolay, Alisa (Alfredo) Lopez, Melissa and Nathaniel Freson and Angelina Nsibirwa; five great great grandchildren, Taylor and Braiden Lowrey, Carson and Austin Schroeder and Caiden Ringelstetter; two nieces, Della Anacker, Endeavor, Nancy (John) Wagner, Burnett; one nephew, John Schellkopf, Pacific Palisades, CA; other relatives and friends. Della was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Clarence Hendrickson; twin sister, Dorothy Schellkopf; two granddaughters, Julie Meracle and Lorie Nikolay.
A funeral service for Della will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Oxford with Rev. Brian Rohde officiating. Interment will be in Oxford Village Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.
