Dorothy Schwochert

October 17, 1918 — February 11, 2014

Dorothy E. Schwochert, age 95 of Westfield, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Harris Villa of Westfield. She was born on October 17, 1918 in the Town of Newton to Erhardt and Ella (Gatz) Polenske. Dorothy was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Newton. She married Wallace A. Schwochert on September 5, 1937. Dorothy was also a charter member of the Ladies Guild and taught Sunday school for 70 years at St. Paul. She was an active member of the Budsin Homemakers and Local Thrivent Chapter, serving as president for both groups. Dorothy worked for Handcraft, Brakebush Brothers, Montello Products and Medalist Sand Knit. She enjoyed crafts, playing cards and board games and gardening. Dorothy especially loved her flower garden.

Survivors include her two children, Harold (Sue) Schwochert, MI & AZ and Thelma (Dick) Hierlmeier, Montello; seven grandchildren, Mark (Leah) Schwochert, Steven (Michelle) Schwochert, Brenda (Frank Hall) DeRosier, Henry Hierlmeier, Heidi (Eric) Giese, Tony Hierlmeier and Mindy (Ron) Machajewski; 15 great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; four step great great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Schwanke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great grandson, Justin Giese and two sisters, Hilda Gilgann and Verna Henke.

A funeral service for Dorothy will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Newton with Rev. Dale Boening officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Newton. A visitation will be held on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
