Dorothy Stout

Biography Dorothy M. Stout, age 94 of Westfield, WI, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009 surrounded by her family at Divine Savior Nursing Home, Portage where she had resided for the last 2 ½ years. She was born on January 12, 1915 in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of the late Joseph and Albina (Zarecky) Gerber. Dorothy attended elementary and high school at St. Mary’s in Iowa City. She attended the University of Iowa where became an enthusiastic Hawkeye fan. Dorothy married John R. Stout on August 27, 1938 in Iowa City. She worked for the Iowa City Press Citizen, Rockford Times and Parkersburg Eclipse. While working for the Eclipse she wrote a popular golf column. Dorothy and her husband retired to Sun City West where they were active in politics and volunteer work. In her later years she moved to Westfield to be near her family, especially her great grandchildren whom she greatly adored.
Survivors include her two daughters, Judy (Carl) Brakebush, Westfield and Debby (Chuck) Miller, Shawnee, KS; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Michele) Brakebush, Rebecca (Nathan) Hunter and Camilla (Sean) Daley; seven great grandchildren, Jonathan, Nicholas, Alexa and Andrew Brakebush, Abby, Emma and Kate Hunter, many other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; two great grandchildren, Wyatt and Jocelyn Daley; one sister, Sister Helen Gerber and one brother, Martin Gerber.
A Mass of Celebration for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Westfield with Rev. Michael Richel officiating. Interment will be in Westfield East Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
