Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Greiner

June 12, 1942 — November 23, 2025

Westfield

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Greiner, age 83 of Westfield, passed away at SSM Health Hospice House in Baraboo, Wisconsin on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

Betty was born June 12, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, daughter to the late Herman and Hilda (Ottenbacher) Ertl and, shortly thereafter, sister to beloved younger brother, Gerry, with whom she shared her birthdate.

An accomplished woman of her time, Betty went on to dedicate 33 years of service to Wisconsin Bell before the Bells were busted and became Ameritech. During this time, she assumed many roles, including that of instructor at the Training Center on Kossow Road. Prior to her retirement in 1992, she had mentored thousands and befriended many. Most notably, however, she had become wife to John Terrence Greiner, and mother to her cherished only son, Timothy Christopher Greiner.

In 1993, Betty moved her little family to Westfield, Wisconsin, where they temporarily resided on Lawrence Lake. In her first winter of retirement, she spent her days filling out Audubon bird surveys and maintaining a diary about the weather. When her husband, John, joined her in retirement in 1994, they made their final move from Lawrence Lake to the wooded countryside of Adams County. There, they created their home together, until John suffered a stroke and passed in 2021.

Betty spent the remainder of her years pursuing her love for animals, both beyond and within the walls of her home. As a volunteer with the Adams County Humane Society, she devoted countless hours to scrubbing animal cages, transporting animals, fostering kittens, and participating in their fundraisers. When her body could no longer afford her such autonomy, she continued her support through regular donations and, eventually, welcomed even the most wayward of felines into her home. Today, Betty’s unwavering care and companionship is greatly missed by her precious cats, Shyla, Sassy, and Peanut.

Betty’s presence will also be forever missed by those who loved her most. She is survived by her brother Gerry Ertl, son, Timothy Greiner, and grandchildren Dakota (Sara) Greiner, and Christopher (special friend, Teagan Rehwinkel) Greiner, along with many other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by John, her husband of 60 years, and, in 2024, her beloved daughter-in-law, Elisa Greiner.

Per Betty’s wishes, there will be no formal services.

Should you wish to honor Betty, donations may be made to the family, in care of St. Mary’s Hospice House, or the Adams County Humane Society.
