Elmer Urbach

October 11, 1916 — September 7, 2007

Elmer Henry Jacob Urbach, age 90 of Montello, passed away surrounded by his wife and family on Friday, September 7, 2007 at Berlin Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 11, 1916 in Elliott, North Dakota, son of the late John and Anna (Stroh) Urbach. Elmer graduated from Elliott School, ND in 1936. He married Harriett Goranson on March 12, 1938 in Rockford, IL. Elmer proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II. He worked as an electrician, serving his apprenticeship under Bob Franks of Rockford, IL. Elmer was a member of IBEW Local Union of Eau Claire for 55 years, Huntley, IL Lions Club where he was past president, Princeton Lions Club and American Legion Post # 84 of Monroe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Harriett; seven children, Keith (Jean), Westfield, WI, Joan (Don) Sherfield, Monroe, WI, Nancy (Dale) Schwab, Algonquin, IL, Delores Evans, Union, IL, Peggy Swanbery, Aurora, IL, Richard (Lindy), Pell Lake, WI and Patricia Rapp, North Aurora, IL; 19 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; sister in law, Dorothy Urbach and nephew, Gary Urbach both of Portland, OR; other relatives and friends. Elmer was preceded in death by two sisters, Selma and Marian and two brothers, Sam and William.
A funeral service for Elmer will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Montello with Rev. Sue Bryce officiating. Interment will be in Montello City Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
