Eunice Barnes-Phillips

Biography Eunice A. Barnes-Phillips, age 89 of Westfield and part-time resident of Alamo, TX, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012 at her home in Westfield. Eunice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all and she will be truly missed. She was born on March 14, 1923 in Rice Lake, WI, daughter of John and Euphamia (Peterson) Roen. Eunice married Durward Barnes on July 20, 1946, he preceded her in death. She then married Jim Phillips on October 21,1995. Eunice was a paraprofessional and bus aid in Rockford, IL for many years. She enjoyed caring for children with special needs. After she retired she enjoyed gardening, being a homemaker and attending church services.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Phillips, Westfield; two daughters, Shelby (Ron) Kern, Paw Paw, IL and Vicki Slojkowski, Machesney Park, IL; two stepsons, Jim (Mary) Phillips, Monroe, WI and John Phillips, Palatine, IL; two brothers, Orville (Virginia) Roen, Rockford, IL and John (Carol) Roen, Big Springs, TX; one sister, Gladys Ellison, Eau Claire, WI; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother in law, Gary Phillips, MN and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Durward; daughter, Cindy Hinz; grandson, Christopher Terranova and brother, Alvin Roen.

A memorial service for Eunice will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at New Beginnings Christian Community Church with Pastor Terry Temanson officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Inurnment will be in Willwood Burial Park, Rockford, IL at a later date.
