Frances "Fran" Grace Nesbit

Frances “Fran” Grace Nesbit, age 89 of Stoughton/Oxford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. She was born on August 11, 1936 in Stoughton to James and Myrinda (Thompson) Obrecht. Fran graduated from Stoughton High School in 1954. She married Richard Nesbit on September 11, 1954 in Stoughton. As she was raising her own children, Fran provided in home day care for many other children. Much of their life together was lived on the UW-Turkey Farm on the Arlington Prairie. After Dick’s retirement in 1993, Fran and Dick moved to the Oxford area. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Harrisville. Fran enjoyed traveling throughout the US including bus trips with Pete and Pauline and the Dorf II gang. She further enjoyed her children and grandchildren, deer and turkey hunting, brandy old fashions with a Friday night fish fry, country music, and going for breakfast at the Sportsman’s Tavern in Harrisville after church. Fran could usually be found cooking or baking in her kitchen, which was her domain.

Fran is survived by her three children, Greg (Tammy) Nesbit, Lori (Chris) Robson and Mark (Nicole) Nesbit; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Sharon (Jim) Lunde; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; two sisters, Lois and Mary; two brothers, James and Richard and her unofficial mom, Birdie McCall.

A funeral service for Fran will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Harrisville with Rev. Blaine Niskanen officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Burial will be in Harrisville Cemetery.
