Guadalupe O'Matta

Biography

Guadalupe O’Matta, age 91 of Coloma, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at his home. He was born on August 14, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas. He married Maria de la Luz Ortega on January 17, 1976 in Adams-Friendship. Guadalupe was a member of the United States Navy, proudly serving in WW II, U.S. Naval Reserves, Coloma Lions Club and was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wautoma. He also served as a Mason and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Guadalupe was a communication engineer and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Maria de la Luz; five daughters, Olga (Gabriel) Garza, Diane (Tom) Davis, Rosalinda Ibanez, Raquel (Patrick Sr.) Manning and Madicela Ibanez; five sons, Robert (Pat) Mata, Guadalupe “Lupe” (Alma) Mata, Frank “Poncho” (Leo) Mata, Daniel (special friend, Julie) O’Matta and Ernestino “Tino” (special friend, Sherry) Pineda; 34 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clementa and Luisa Mata; two sisters, Clementina and Felciana; three brothers, Miguel, Jose and Daniel; two sons and two grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass for Guadalupe will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wautoma which will be followed by full military honors and a potluck luncheon. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church which will include a rosary service and a Native American drum ceremony.


A special thanks to all who were at Guadalupe’s bedside when he passed away, Fr. John Swing, Tino and Sherry, Annie and John “The Gringo”, Pat Arnold, five grandchildren, Daniel, Patrick, Anthony, Connor and Destiny, Raquel and Pat and his loving wife, Maria de la Luz.
