Jim Cossman

Jim Cossman, age 83 of Harrisville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at ThedaCare Medical Center in Berlin. He was born on December 21, 1933 in Gurnee, Illinois to John and Catherine (Schaeffer) Cossman. Jim married Maude Hutson on July 25, 1958 in Waukegan, Illinois. They moved to Harrisville in 1974 from Zion, IL.

Jim started racing stock cars in 1961 and he raced until he was 68 years old. He was inducted into the Illinois and Wisconsin Stock Car Hall of Fame. Jim enjoyed camping for 30 years, hunting, fishing and even snowmobiling for a few years. He was a Chevy man but he loved his 1940 Ford Coupe and showing it at car shows. Going to car shows was one of his favorite pastimes. Jim cared for a lot of people and will be missed by many. He loved his dog, Hattie.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Maude; four children, John (Brenda), KY, Pate (April), Westfield, Suzie (Al) Mashuda, Princeton and Jennifer (Ross) Wahl, Oxford; six grandchildren, Nicholas (Jorden) Cossman, Ethan, Hanna and Owen Mashuda, Bailey Maude and Elizabeth Wahl; six step grandchildren, April, Matt, Austin, Alexis, Andrew and Amber; three great grandchildren, Madison, Rozalynn and Irelynn Cossman; one sister, Evelyn Marcelain, Westfield; many other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

A memorial gathering for Jim will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Harrisville Sportsmen’s Club Community Center in Harrisville from 10:00 a.m. to ?. Inurnment will be in Harrisville Cemetery at a later date.
