John R. Zajda

John R. Zajda, age 85 of Harrisville, passed away from complications due to dementia surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 7, 2024 in Montello.  He was born on February 21, 1939 in Chicago, IL to John Karl and Bernice (Lonas) Zajda.  John graduated from Argo High School and proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1957 – 1959.  He was married to Sylvia Rehm for 24 years and moved to Montello in the 70’s.  John was a steamfitter and union member of Local 601 for over 60 years. He spent many winters in Florida.  John loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and bow hunter but he especially loved spending time with his family.  

John is survived by his companion of 35 years, Jean “Sam” Zoellner; children, Jeffrey (Joy) Zajda, Portage, John (Jennifer) Zajda, Harrisville, Ann (Will) Sadek, Lodi, Derek (Nicole) Zoellner, Erie, CO and P.J. (Brittany) Zoellner, Westfield; grandchildren, Luke and Cole Zajda, Ryan Zajda, Logan Zoellner and Stella and Isla Zoellner; brother, Karl (Marge), Mauston; sisters-in-law, Dale, Harrisville and Donna, Plainfield, IL; many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Jim; nephew, David and niece, Debra.

A memorial service for John will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home in Westfield with Pastor Brenda Pulver officiating.  Inurnment will be in Harrisville Cemetery following the service.  A visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
