Oxford

Joseph F. Sweeney, age 50, of Oxford, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at his home. He was born on February 17, 1976 in Portage to Dennis and Theresa (Moore) Sweeney.

Joe was a business owner who cared deeply about his family. He had a straightforward personality and loved talking about politics and current events. Joe was knowledgeable in many areas and had a way of explaining things that made learning fun for the people around him. His sense of humor often lightened the mood, and he had a way of not sweating the small stresses of life while helping those around him do the same.

He also loved adventuring with his family and exploring new places together, including trips to Indonesia and Egypt. Joe was passionate about helping others and spent many years involved in foster care, opening his home to children and making a difference in many lives.

Joe is survived by his wife, Alyssa, with whom he shared 17 years of adventures; two children, Raiden and Arabella Sweeney; his father, Dennis Sweeney; sister, Deserae (Adam) Steva; three brothers, Dennis Sweeney, Michael Paskey and Scotty Kindred; sister-in-law, Rachel Paskey; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Kindred; two sons, Tyler and Gunner Sweeney; brother, Brandon Paskey; and his grandmother, Delores Sweeney.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
