Kay E. Taschwer age 86, died peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026 of Alzheimer’s Disease. We believe that she is reunited with the love of her life, and husband of 48 years, Tommy Taschwer. Tommy died 19 years ago and Kay was never the same. We hope they are catching up on life and enjoying a golf game followed by a gin and tonic! During their 48 years of marriage, they focused on family and taught strong values of being kind to others, loyalty and instilled a strong work ethic which was reflected in their children’s careers. They had a large network of friends and spent a lot of time at Tuckaway Country Club. They enjoyed warm weather, winter vacations and did lots of traveling later in life.
Kay’s caring and compassionate personality led her to pursue her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse at the age of 37, graduating Valedictorian of her class. She ended her 20 year career as a Nurse Manager for the Recovery Room at St. Francis Hospital, Milwaukee, WI.
Kay adored her seven grandchildren from the day they were born. She loved having them stay with her so she could have quality time and make lasting memories. She rarely missed a sporting event and was their greatest cheerleader. Kay was able to meet her first great granddaughter this year and it was clear by her smile that she knew this child was a part of her. The circle of life.
Kay also looked forward to the extended “Schaneetasch” family gatherings. There was always laughter, music and singing to fill her soul. Singing brought her quality of life until her last breath.
For many years Alzheimer's disease gradually stole her away from us, depriving Kay of her memories but never her spirit; as she fought, sometimes literally, the progression of her disease. About 5 years ago, Kay’s cousin, Nan Mussey-Hinze welcomed her into her Assisted Living in Westfield, WI, Kay’s hometown. Nan ensured that Kay was exceptionally cared for and loved. After Nan retired, Lily Meadows continued to provide her with wonderful care. Two years ago, Kay signed on with Moments Hospice Care, where she bonded with Tina, her favorite nurse. Tina provided care, concern and compassion to Kay and her family.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Madge Schatzka and her husband Thomas Taschwer.
Kay is survived by her children, who genuinely believe she was the best Mom in the world. They advocated for her care and treatment for many years.
Kay’s strength and perseverance will live on in her children, Jody Taschwer-Milsap, Jeff (Lori) Taschwer, Mike (Lesli) Taschwer. Her cherished grandchildren, Ryan Milsap, Hannah Taschwer, Madison (TJ) Toy, Emma (Brian) Davenport, Gabrielle (Austin) Walstad, Olivia Taschwer, Samuel Taschwer, her beautiful great granddaughter, Elaine Davenport, her beloved siblings, Chick (Dick) Neeb, Tim Schatzka, Becky Schatzka and many special nieces and nephews and friend, Bonnie Schoenike.
