Lavira Steinhaus

Lavira M. Steinhaus, age 94 of Montello, WI died on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at At Home Again Assisted Living, Rio, WI.  She was born on November 3, 1923 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI the daughter of Lacy C. and Viola A. (Kroenke) DeWitt.  Lavira graduated from Westfield High School in the class of 1941.  She was the last living member.  Lavira married Kenneth M. Steinhaus on August 23, 1942 in Coloma, WI.  He preceded her in death on September 8, 1991.  The first ten years of their marriage were spent on the Steinhaus family farm in the Township of Packwaukee, Marquette County, WI.  They moved to the City of Montello on November 15, 1952.  After moving to the city, she worked at the Montello Products, Marquette County Welfare Department, Register in Probate for the Marquette County court system under Judge Keven Callahan, Montello State Bank and retired as manager of Central Savings and Loan.  Lavira enjoyed watching sports, especially her son Tom, in baseball, basketball and softball in Montello and baseball and basketball at the University of Oshkosh.  She loved the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers on television.  Lavira was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid in Packwaukee for the past seventy-five years, Montello Senior Citizens and past member of the Montello Chamber of Commerce.  She was an avid card player and was an excellent Scrabble player.  We all know that the card tables are set in heaven and the games have begun.

Lavira is survived by one son, Tom (Barb) of Portage; two grandchildren, Beth (Jamie) Nelson of Baraboo and John (Sue) Steinhaus of Naperville, IL; four great-grandchildren, Derek (Angela) Nelson of Peoria, AZ, Kellie (Brandon) McBeth of Windsor and Emily and Chloe Steinhaus of Naperville, IL; one great-great granddaughter, Juniper Ann Nelson of Peoria, AZ; two sisters, Doris Garlock of Portage and Eleanor Grabarski of Grand Marsh; two sisters in law, Marion DeWitt of Pardeeville and Mavis DeWitt of Montello; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; one sister, Joyce (Wayne) Rihn; two brothers, Bruce and Herman DeWitt.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Packwaukee, WI.  The Reverend Larry Sheppard will officiate.  Burial will be in the Westfield East Cemetery, Westfield, WI.  Friends may call on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield, WI or at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.  A memorial fund to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church or to Parkinson’s Foundation has been established.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of At Home Again, Rio and Generations Hospice of Fond du Lac for their exceptional love and care of mom.  Also special thanks to The Reverend Larry Sheppard for his monthly visits.
