Mabel Hamilton Mueller passed away peacefully into the loving hands of God on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Sunny Hill Health Care Center in Madison, WI. She was born August 30, 1911 at the family farm homesteaded by her Scotch-Irish great-grandparents, located in the township of Westfield, Marquette County, WI. Mabel was the second in a family of eight children to Robert Wallace and Sarah Maude (Laing) Hamilton. She attended the Russell Flats Grade School and graduated from Westfield High School. She then attended the Westfield Teacher Training Institute, and taught rural school in Marquette County for six years. Mabel went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in 1943, she received a BS degree in Home Economics. While attending college, she met and married Emil A. Mueller on May 30, 1941, and they spent 42 loving years together. Mabel was a dietician in various positions in Appleton and was a wonderful homemaker. She was well known for her cooking, and baking skills. Family and friends never left the table hungry. Mabel lived a life of great integrity devoting herself to her husband, sons, grandchildren and church. She was a kind, generous, strong willed person who brought joy to many. Mabel loved nature, attending her children's and grandchildren's activities, and researching family history. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Memorial Presbyterian Church, Appleton, and the Lake Edge Lutheran Church, Madison. Mabel enjoyed writing both poetry and prose and continued her education late in life by taking writing courses at the University of Wisconsin. She published a number of articles and poems.
She is survived by her sons David of Lakewood, CO, Dean (Joyce) Madison and Dwight (Mary) DeForest; grandchildren Andy, Lauri, Jeff and Brian Mueller; sisters Sarah Spitzer, Burlington, and Jessie (Gerald) Van Gilst, Lake Ridge ,VA.; a brother-in-law, George Klingbeil, Madison; a sister-in-law, Irma Hamilton, Madison and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three brothers, Thomas, David and Donald Hamilton; two sisters, Mary Klingbeil and Margaret Kruger; one sister-in-law, Charlene Hamilton and two nieces, Sandra Breed and Nancy Hamilton.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church, Westfield, WI, followed by graveside services at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Russell Flats, township of Westfield, Marquette County. Pastor Shirley Funk will officiate. A light luncheon will be served at the church following the graveside service. Friends may greet the family at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the Hamilton Family Scholarship Fund c/o M&I Bank P.O. The family wishes to express sincere thanks and appreciation for the care provided by Hospice Care of Madison and the staff at the SunnyHill Healthcare Center.
