Mary Burns

Mary J. Burns, age 87 of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Tivoli in Portage. She was born on July 30, 1927 in the Town of Armenia, WI, daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Leszczynski) Peterson. Mary graduated from Necedah High School in 1946. She married Rex L. Burns on October 7, 1948 in Belle Fourche, SD. Rex preceded her in death on December 6, 1984. While raising her family, Mary also operated the family farm. She enjoyed crochet, sewing, traveling, reading and gardening with her son, Robert.

Survivors include her seven children, Rena (David) Stowell, Oxford, Mary Ann (Tim) Jobe, Bear Creek, Alan (Sandy) Burns, Oxford, Dan (Missy) Burns, Montello, David Burns, Westfield, Judy Burns, Mena, Arkansas and Robert (Dani) Burns, Wisconsin Dells; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; aunt, Gertie Toman; brothers and sisters, Palmer (Mary) Peterson, Virginia (Arnie) Loesher, Betty (Bill) Moylan, Dorothy Peterson, Vern (Bonnie) Peterson, Verna Loendorf, Selma Thomas and Miriam (Rich) Struck; many other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Burns and sister, Eva Brux.

A funeral service for Mary will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home of Westfield with Rev. Larry Sheppard officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Westfield. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
