Mary Patricia "Pat" Murray, age 82, long time resident of Westfield, passed away at Divine Savior Extended Care in Portage. She was born on May 17, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois.
Pat loved teaching in the early elementary grades. A graduate of St. Xavier College, Chicago, as a young woman she taught in the Chicago Public School system. She later taught in Orchard Hill Kindergarten, Tinley Park, IL, and in St. Joseph's School, Homewood, IL. Pat enjoyed magical travels all across the U.S. and Canada...favorite destinations were the Canadian Rockies and Maui, Hawaii. Her hobbies included a love of music, knitting, needlepoint, reading, golf and near champion status with a crossword puzzle. She also truly loved spending quiet time overlooking the pond and watching birds, deer, sunsets, and all manner of trees and plants on the Westfield property near Pleasant Lake.
Survived by her sister, Nell Gallagher and her brother Chuck Maloney, and by children Timothy Murray (spouse Elizabeth Potter-Murray), Anne Murray (partner Lenore Duffy), Catherine Belt (spouse Rick Belt), and Daniel Murray (spouse Julie Murray), and her grandchildren, Sean Belt, Teri Borus (nee Belt), and Hilary, Leslie, Caroline, Connor, Heather, Stacey, Andrew and Jeremy Murray, and pre-deceased by grandson Matthew Murray. Also pre-deceased by her husband, James E. Murray, her father Joseph Maloney, her mother Helen Maloney, her brother Joe Maloney, and her sister Sally Nolan.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Pat will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Westfield with Rev. Michael Richel officiating. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Coloma. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory will be gratefully accepted at Divine Savior Extended Care, Good Shepherd Catholic Church, or the Budda Box.
