Maycel Daye

Maycel (Chatfield) Daye, age 101 of Westfield, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Divine Savior Extended Care, Portage. Maycel was born September 18, 1905 in Coloma, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Way) Chatfield. Her early childhood was spent in Coloma. Later the family moved to Stevens Point and in 1925 Maycel graduated from Central State Teacher's College with a degree in Primary Education. She started her teaching career in Friendship where she taught in the Primary grades from 1925 until 1927. From 1927 to 1929 she taught first grade in Unity, WI.
In 1928 she was married to Arden Daye, Westfield. In 1934 their son Bently Richard was born. After a few years at home, in November of 1943 she returned to the schoolroom. In Westfield, she taught first grade until her retirement in June of 1965. The following year she taught a Reading Improvement program in the Westfield school. Maycel was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Westfield, the United Methodist Women, Friends of the Library, Marquette County and the Wisconsin State Retired Teacher's Association, also the Westfield Garden Club.
She is survived by her son, Bently (Reba) Daye, Louisville, KY; grandson Richard Daye, Frankfort, KY; one sister, Marjorie Omen of Monona, WI and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arden in 1982; two sisters, Evelyn and Dorris and one brother, Kenneth.
A funeral service for Maycel will be held on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield with Pastor Terry Temanson officiating. Interment will be in Westfield East Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 AM until the hour of service at the funeral home.
