Michael Zagar

Michael F. Zagar, age 80 of Fond du Lac, formerly of Montello, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac. He was born on July 12, 1929 in Milwaukee, son of the late Michael and Josephine (Rasbornik) Zagar. Michael married Audrey S. Greenwald (Daniels) on July 10, 1965 in Milwaukee.
Michael was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in Germany until 1953. He worked as a truck driver at Tews Lime and Cement Company in Milwaukee for 40 years. Retirement in Montello allowed Michael to participate in numerous hobbies including woodworking, quilting, sewing, model railroading and model airplanes, as well as playing harmonica in several bands in the area. He also played briefly with a band in Fond du Lac.
Survivors include three sons, Larry (Kris) Zagar, Wind Lake; Steve (Ginger) Zagar, Oakdale, CA; and Michael A. (Kristy) Zagar, Fond du Lac; three step children, Joseph (Pat) Greenwald, Oxford; Lily (Michael) Thimm, Wisconsin Rapids; and Leila Greenwald, Merrill; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; three sisters, Josephine Kitzerow, St. Francis, Rosemary Tangren, Golden Valley, AZ and Tina LaCourse, Oregon, OH; two brothers, Frank (Judy) Zagar, Lac du Flambeau and James (Dolly) Eggert, Greenfield; other relatives and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his wife Audrey, one grandson, Jason and two brothers, John and Robert Zagar.
A funeral service for Michael will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield with Pastor Luke Emrich officiating. Full military honors will follow the service. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
