Reinhold “Rhynie” Baumann, age 85 of Westfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Divine Savior Hospital. He was born on February 25, 1928 in Romania to Martin and Eugenia Baumann. Rhynie came to the United States in 1951 being sponsored by Ken and Margaret Bennett. He proudly served his country for two years in the U.S. Army. Rhynie married Donna Hamilton on June 20, 1959 in Westfield at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He worked for Hamilton Seed Farms for 19 years followed by Brakebush Brothers for 17 years as well as being self-employed on his own farm on Russell Flats. Rhynie enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, four wheeling around the farm, making apple cider and especially doing all of these things with his four grandkids. He was always busy and looking for his next project.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; three children, Larry (Linda), Tom and Lori Baumann; four grandchildren, Logan, Lacey, Lindsay and Trey Baumann; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother in law, Calvin (Hilde) Hamilton; sister in law, Sarah (Walter) Leonhardt and niece, Kathy Hamilton.
A funeral service for Rhynie will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Westfield with Rev. Gary H. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Westfield with full military honors. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
