Sophie Mary Szymanski

It is with cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Sophie Mary Szymanski (nee Haickawicz) at the Fair View Nursing Home in Mauston, Wisconsin. Born on August 29, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois. Sophie has spent the last forty years of her life in Wisconsin where she graced us with her spirited wit for 95 years.

Sophie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mitchell C. Szymanski, her sister Antoinette Wrobel, and her dear nieces, Rose and Mary Wrobel. She is survived by her devoted children, Richard (Peggy) and Carl. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Valerie (Michael) Moothart and Paul (Chelsea) Szymanski, and her treasured great-grandsons, Thomas, David, and Francis Moothart and expectant great-granddaughter, Carolina Sophia Szymanski. In addition to her family, Sophie shared a special bond with her close and dearest friend, Ginger Huber, who was a constant source of joy and support.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered their time, encouragement and support. The prayers, cards, and calls during Sophie’s final months provided comfort to her and her family during this tender time.

A Mass to celebrate Sophie’s life will be held on her birthday, Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, located at 241 E. 6th St., Westfield, WI 53964 with Father Savio Yerasani officiating. Burial to follow Mass at St. Mary Help of Christians Cemetery, N565 County Rd. A, Briggsville, WI. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Family, friends, and all whose lives Sophie touched are invited to join in this celebration of a life well-lived.
