William J. Lundy, 84, of Westfield, WI passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 26, 2025 with his loving wife, Annie at his side. Bill was born April 6, 1941, in Chicago, IL to William V. Lundy and Mildred Lundy. His parents died in 1948 and 1956 respectively. His grand-daughter, Elena Thornton also preceded him in death.
At the age of 4, Bill and his parents moved to Milwaukee. He started his life of work at the age of 12, delivering newspapers in the Milwaukee area and by 16 had developed a love for working on street rods with his friends and working at gas stations, mechanic shops and hardware stores.
He graduated from West Allis vocational-technical school with honors by the age of 20. Bill graduated from UW Plattville with an associate degree in teaching and taught high school industrial arts in Lodi, WI for 4 years and worked part-time as a deputy sheriff in Lodi during that time. He joined the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) narcotics unit where he also worked OC, Vice and Crime Lab before joining the Arson Bureau and was also State Fire Marshall during that time. He worked for DCI for 10 years and then joined a major WI insurance co where he started and headed up their Special Investigations Unit which investigated fires and frauds. He managed the biggest fire investigation crews in the insurance industry at that time for 20 years. During that time he founded the International Association of Special Investigation Units (IASIU). He returned to college at Cardinal Stritch in Madison WI and earned his MBM in 1986. He later served part time as a teacher for Business Ethics for Cardinal Stritch.
Bill was a lifetime member of Masons, Wisconsin IAAI and IASIU. He was also very involved in the Westfield community as well as the Lawrence Lake Association and a member of the Monello Gun Club where he loved teaching the Youth Rifle Program. Bill loved spending time with his family and enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling to new places with his wife, Annie.
He married the love of his life, Annie, in July of 1994 in Waunakee, WI. They moved to Westfield, WI in 2000 after his retirement from the Insurance Industry. Bill and Annie then started their own fire investigation company, Midstates Investigation and Technical Services (MITS) which Bill and Annie ran for 20 years, retiring in 2022.
Bill is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Annie, his children, Joyce (Dan Pagel) Lundy and grandson Nick (Shyanna) McCrossen with great-grandsons, Layne and River, Wisconsin Rapids, Ryan (Brittany) Lundy with grandson William, Bulverde, TX, Dan (Sheryl) Thornton with grandchildren DJ Thornton and Brittney (Will) Emanuelson with great-grandchildren, Kristina and Zack, Oxford, WI, David (Lisa Enis) Thornton, Oxford, and Amanda Lundy of NY. He is also survived by his cousin, Irene (Stan) Kotas, Florida and many wonderful close friends.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home in Westfield. There will be the opportunity to speak about your experiences with Bill. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Westfield at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bill’s name to St. Croix Hospice Care, Baraboo WI is requested.
