Doris Henke

Doris M. Henke, age 92 of Westfield, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards.  She was born on July 2, 1928 to Edwin and Ella Polfuss, Princeton, WI.  Doris married Theodore Henke on August 31, 1952.  They operated a dairy farm until 1962 at which time they purchased the Schoolhouse Tavern.  Doris retired at the age of 80 and sold “Newton College”.  She was known for her homemade chili and ground round burgers, along with her welcoming smile and generosity.  In 2011, she moved from Westfield to Wisconsin Rapids to be near her daughter, Donna Berndt.  The last six years of her earthly journey were spent at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards.

Doris is survived by her loving daughter, Donna and son in law, Dick Berndt; granddaughter, Kelli (Dale) Lyndon; great grandchildren, Clayton, Ava and James of Deerfield Beach, FL; brother, Harlow Polfuss; niece, Gail Scheuers; nephew, Glen Polfuss; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Marvin; sisters, Mavis Fink and Delma Disterhaft.

A funeral service for Doris will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Harrisville with Rev. Blaine Niskanen officiating.  Burial will be in Harrisville Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
